Sri Lanka: Shut Down Pinnawala Elephant "Orphanage"

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage in Sri Lanka is closer to an elephant prison than orphanage. The elephants are kept chained up in small enclosures behind bars.
The baby elephants in the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage are often removed from the facility and used in peraheras (Buddhist festivals). However, when not being used in peraheras most of the elephants are used for hard labour and safaris.
Care2 member and committed elephant activist Kelly Coldewey has been fighting to shut the facility down and send these elephants to legitimate sanctuaries.
The facility often resorts to cruel treatment of its elephants. Tourists have complained of elephants chained by multiple legs without any ability to move at all.
Public pressure can be effective in convincing Sri Lanka's leaders to act. If we all support Kelly's petition, we can definitely bring attention to this abusive facility.
