Dear Friend,
Firstly, thank you so much for your inspiring support throughout our ‘33 Species we love and must protect’ campaign over the last 33 days.
We’re delighted to announce that we have had an epic sign-up on our petition - superseding our initial goal of 300,000 signatures. So we’ve set a new goal of 333,000 and we’re just over 19,000 shy. With the continued support of our international community of change-makers such as yourself, we are confident we will smash this new goal!
There have been over 3,000 shares or retweets of our 33 Species posts across social media across our channels and those of our partner organisations.
So thank you! All of our 33 Antarctic species that we love and must protect salute you!
Our 33 Species campaign has been leading up to the 33rd Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) meeting, which kicks off today in Hobart.
It’s now a little under two weeks until CCAMLR reaches a decision on the two proposed marine protected area (MPA) proposals in the Southern Ocean.
We not only support the adoption of these proposals and have been working tirelessly to see them come to fruition, but will be working hard into the future to see them expanded.
The good news is that many countries have locked in their support, and key bodies appear committed to working together to implement the world’s largest system of MPAs.
Yet there is still work to be done as the clock ticks down!
As the fate of the Antarctic hangs in the balance, and a group of decision-makers gear up to determine its potential protection behind closed doors, your support has never been more vital. If you too believe in the preservation of the Antarctic Ocean and its 10,000+ unique species, please share this email with your friends and encourage them to sign our petition.
You can also directly tell decision-makers you support the world’s largest system of MPAs in the Antarctic by sending them a digital postcard.
Stay tuned for more from us as CCAMLR wraps up on the 31st October with what we hope will be some very positive news for our beloved Antarctic Ocean.
