Fifty animals have died at a Venezuelan zoo in the last year. Animals that remain -- a lion, elephants, bison and monkeys -- are starving and dirty. The zoo is suffering due to the lack of funding for food, water and medicine. This is a crisis.
Sign the petition demanding that the animals in the Caricuao Zoo be removed and brought to a sanctuary.
Locals have said that some animals are going 15 days without eating. And as the zoo has run out of medication, a small illness can turn deadly very quickly. Vietnamese pigs, tapirs, rabbits, birds, peccaries, porcupines and other animals have died. Officials are investigating these deaths, but so far no action has been taken. The Minister for Ecosocialism and Water has even brushed off the issue, saying that the animals are well cared for.
But visitors to the zoo are seeing the reality -- animals that are starving, sick, and dying. Venezuela is in the middle of a severe economic crisis, and there is no sign that things will turn around. Only international pressure can raise the profile of this horrific zoo and force local officials to close the zoo and release the animals to a sanctuary.
Please add your voice to the outrage! Ask Venezuelan authorities to release these suffering animals immediately.
Thank you,
