Save the Amur Tiger from Illegal Logging
action alert!
Illegal logging in Siberia is destroying the Amur tiger and leopard habitat. Almost two-thirds of exported lumber from Siberia is logged illegally. If we don't act now, these majestic cats will soon be extinct.
Dear Friends, Thirty. That's the number of Amur leopards left in the wild. Because of deforestation in Siberia and Mongolia, the population of Amur leopards and tigers has plummeted. We need to take action to save these big cats before it's too late. Illegal logging is rampant in Eastern Russia. These operations push deer and boar out of forests, leaving Amur tigers and leopards in search of food. Moreover, poachers use logging roads to infiltrate the forest and hunt these big cats. The forest is these cats' home, and loggers and poachers have no right to take it from them. By one estimate, two thirds of exported Mongolian oak is logged illegally. Many logging areas lack sufficient law enforcement, and of the 691 registered cases of illegal logging in just one province in 2011, only 16 percent were brought to trial. If we want to save the Amur tiger and leopard from extinction, we need to act today to stop illegal deforestation. The Amur leopard and tiger won't survive long without our help. The only way we can save these majestic creatures is by taking a stand against illegal logging. Tell Russia to crack down on illegal deforestation and prosecute those who are destroying the Amur leopard and tiger habitat.
Thanks for taking action, Eric A. Care2 and ThePetitionSite Team
