In 2012 Ilya was born weighing just 3lbs, and he was abandoned to languish in a home for abandoned babies in Minsk. Born with Hydrocephalus, as well as a multitude of other conditions, Ilya was deprived of adequate medical or social care from birth.
In December 2016, Ilya came into the care of CCI through Vesnova Children's Mental Asylum. Ilya's health was very poor and doctors believed that due to his untreated condition he was expected to die within weeks.
Under CCI's Medical and Palliative Care ProgrammesIlya is receiving high quality nursing care and affection from CCI's monthlyVolunteer Medical Teams. Ilya is flourishing; he is gaining strength day by day, the aching pressure sores on his head are now almost gone and his bright personality shines through!
During his early childhood Ilya was confined to the prison of his cot but now his world has changed. He can move around in his bespoke buggy, he is cuddled and played with every single day. Ilya has developed into a very happy young boy and celebrated his 5th birthday in June!
Since the 1986 disaster at Chernobyl, CCI have worked tirelessly to ease the suffering of children living in Chernobyl's shadow. While we cannot cure Ilya's condition, we can ensure that he receives high quality care, with dignity while bringing as many smiles to his handsome face while he is with us. His progressive illnesses mean that Ilya will more than likely not survive to adulthood, however CCI are determined to make every day count and as full of joys as possible.
Ilya's transformation is proof how small changes can make the world of difference.
