Thousands of animals have been poisoned by the spills already. Since June when the latest of the spills began, lagoons have been found filled with dead fish. Capybara that live in the area are found floating dead along the river. And people living on the river banks are falling ill from drinking contaminated water and eating fish full of toxic chemicals.

The Peruvian government isn't doing nearly enough to stop the environmental devastation of these spills – and instead is promoting a rapid expansion of oil and gas operations in the Amazon. Before they proceed, they need to clean up the damage they've done to the environment – before entire ecosystems are irreversibly destroyed.
