The Irish rock band U2 will take to the stage tonight for their first ever concert in Russia. The event in Moscow is part of the group’s “360 Degree” world tour which was earlier interrupted for two months while frontman Bono recovered from a back injury.
U2’s visit to the country was not an opportunity to be missed by Russia’s rock-music loving President Dmitry Medvedev, who being a fan invited Bono to tea at his holiday residence near the Black Sea.
Bono told President Medvedev: “I come here to cross a great divide between me, the Led Zeppelin fan and you, the Deep Purple fan.”
Medvedev replied,” No no no, I prefer Led Zeppelin too – you can relax.”
While on tour the singer is also using his celebrity status to highlight problems in Africa.The noted philanthropist asked the president to find a Russian firm to team up for his “Red” campaign which raises money for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS.
