Anastasia,
Lucky the elephant has been held in captivity at the San Antonio Zoo for50 years. And if that wasn't heartbreaking enough, she's spent the past three years alone in her enclosure.
Brittany G., a Care2 member in San Antonio, doesn't want the elderly elephant to die sad and alone, so she's started a petition to move Lucky to an elephant sanctuary. Please add your name to help.
Lucky's living conditions are unacceptable, and violate several regulations. The Association of Zoos and Aquariums states that elephants cannot be held in captivity alone. It is also no longer legal for people to take baby Asian elephants from the wild and place them in U.S. zoos, which is exactly how Lucky ended up at the San Antonio Zoo.
This is no way for an elephant to live. It's time the San Antonio Zoo freed Lucky to live out the rest of her days in peace.
Elephants are extremely social, and there's nothing natural about keeping these animals in zoos. Elephants are used to traveling far distances in large herds, roaming around to search for food.
Lucky is approaching the final years of her life. She should be able to spend this time free and happy, not locked up and harassed by zoo visitors.
Care2 activist Brittany G. is urging the San Antonio Zoo to release Lucky the elephant immediately. Will you sign her petition?
Thank you for making a difference.
Respectfully,
