Back in February, we asked you to sign a petition targeting an institution you had probably never heard of – the Bank for International Settlements and its chairman Christian Noyer.
You, and almost 40,000 others, called on them to release data on money held in tax havens, which would be invaluable in the fight against corruption.
Great news! The bank has written to ONE explaining that they have plans to release the data. But they haven’t told us how or when. So backed by your voice, we are now working with them to ensure that we get access to the data, and in the right way.
Releasing this data would help citizens and transparency campaigners follow the money, root out corruption and push for resources to be used to fight extreme poverty rather than lost to dodgy deals. It will also be invaluable for the new set of global anti-poverty goals that world leaders are developing.
We will push the bank to set out a detailed plan for how they are going to release the data. And rest assured, we won’t stop until they do.
Thank you. With your help we really are making a difference!
