The red belly toad is one of the most endangered amphibians in the world, restricted to one tiny corner of the Brazilian forest. And thanks to a nearby hydroelectric dam, this little toad could die off forever.

Dear Friends, 

The red belly toad is one of the most endangered amphibians in the world, restricted to one tiny corner of the Brazilian forest. Its total habitat range extends just a few hundred meters, which makes it extremely vulnerable to any disturbance. So plans for yet another hydroelectric project in Brazil's forests could mean disaster for the species.

Officials have granted permission for a small hydroelectric plant in the vicinity, which would involve a dam just a short distance upstream from the toad’s habitat. Unfortunately, this would spell the end for the red belly toad. This animal is uniquely adapted to its habitat, including current water levels, which would be drastically changed by the project.

Perhaps worst of all, the plant is too small to produce much energy -- m eaning that it will have a devastating impact on this rare species, but almost no benefit at all for people.

It just isn't worth it. Tell the Brazilian government to stop the dam and spare the red belly toad from certain death!
